Jeffrey Kelly, PhD

Raymond L. Comenzo, MD

Dr. Comenzo attended Amherst College and Boston University School of Medicine. He did his post-graduate residency training at Boston City Hospital, and a Fellowship in hematology, oncology and blood banking at New England Medical Center. Dr. Comenzo is currently Medical Director of the Cytotherapy Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and is a leading clinician/researcher of amyloidosis.

He has authored over 70 scientific publications, reviews and book chapters. Dr. Comenzo is a member of the International Myeloma Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board and is called upon often by various organizations for his lectures on amyloidosis, its treatment options and research status.

Morie A. Gertz, M.D.

Dr. Gertz graduated from Northwestern University with highest distinction and went on to Loyola Medical School where he received his medical degree cum laude. He did a three year medical residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago and was voted resident of the year for two years. He then went on to training in hematology and oncology at Mayo Clinic before doing research at the Thorndike Laboratory at Boston City Hospital.

He was advanced to Professor of Medicine in recognition of his contributions to the understanding of multiple myeloma, amyloidosis and Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. He was Chair of the Division of Hematology from 1997 through 2005 and currently is on the Board of Governors of Mayo Clinic Rochester. He has served as President of the Mayo Rochester Staff and he was awarded the Mayo Distinguished Clinician Award for his contributions to patient care.

David C. Seldin, MD

Dr. Seldin attended Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He did his post-graduate training in hematology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and in medical oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. David currently is Co-Director of the Amyloid Treatment and Research Program at Boston University School of Medicine and is also a Professor of Medicine and Microbiology.

Dr. Seldin has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards throughout his career including the American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship Award, NIH Clinical Investigator Award, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Scholar Award, and is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. He has authored over 75 scientific publications and reviews.

Alan Solomon, MD

Dr. Solomon attended Bucknell University and Duke University School of Medicine. He did his post-graduate residency training in internal medicine, hematology, at Mt. Sinai and Montefiore Hospitals in New York City, and oncology and in clinical and basic research at the National Institutes of Health under a USPHS Special Fellowship at the Rockefeller University. Dr. Solomon is currently Professor of Medicine and Head, Human Immunology and Cancer Program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Medicine-Knoxville.

Dr. Solomon was the recipient of a USPHS Career Development Award and research grants from the American Cancer Society, National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health and in 1992 was named American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professor.

He has authored over 200 scientific publications and was a former member and chairman of the National Cancer Institute’s Clinical Cancer Program Project Review Committee and was a member of its Board of Scientific Counselors. Dr. Solomon serves on the University of Tennessee’s Board of Visitors for the College of Nursing and Department of Religious Studies. He has also been an active participant on community boards, including the Knoxville Museum of Art and the Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum.

Jeffrey Kelly, PhD

Jeff Kelly received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from SUNY College at Fredonia and his PhD in Organic Chemistry at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Jeff’s Post Doctoral work was done at The Rockefeller University in Biochemistry.

Jeff currently is Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Scripps Research Institute.  The scientific work in Jeff’s lab examines the bioorganic and biophysical chemistry of aberrant conformational changes in proteins associated with misfolding disease, such as the amyloidoses diseases, seeking to develop new approaches for preventing these diseases.

Jeff has written or co-written over 150 publications, and has received several honors including the American Chemical Society Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award and State of New York at Fredonia Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award

Rodney H. Falk, MD

Dr. Falk attended University of Birmingham and University of Birmingham Medical School in England. He did his post-graduate residency training in cardiology, at Brook General and King’s College Hospitals in London, England, and fellowships at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.Dr. Falk is currently at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.

Dr. Falk has hospital affiliations with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Faulkner Hospital in
Jamaica Plain, MA and is an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Boston University School of Medicine.

He has authored or co-authored medical publications and textbooks and has just written the Physician’s Guide to Amyloidosis for NORD, the National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc.
